Just mess’n around.

Veronica and Tammy – very busy at work today.
Inspired by all of you guys and your crazy good skillz, I signed up for a watercolor class at 3rd ward. This is my first ever attempt at a portrait (of one of my classmates – Jessica). And while her mouth is a bit high up I’m at least pleased she looks like a real human person.

first ever portrait

When I was around 2 or 3 we lived in a house with a big hill in the backyard. My older brother Mike would go down the hill, disappearing behind the thick line of trees. We called the bottom of the hill “the swamp.” Too frightened to go down to the swamp myself I would sit patiently at the top of the hill waiting for Mike to return. Inevitably I would soon hear his howls and screams for help. “Help! Help! The swamp monster has got me!”. Unable to see through the trees, I could only imagine the danger he was in. I would fret and cry and scream back – “Mike! Mike” Are you ok?” I am sure this was generally followed by me running to get my parents to help Mike escape the swamp monster.
This is cheating as I drew this a few years ago to work into an animated flash banner for The Jones Street Station. These 3 scenes actually looped as the boat floated along. They’ve since updated the look of their site to match the new album design.

I had a dream that Sadie and I were floating in a dirigible style easy chair with a paddle wheel at it’s base. In the dream I was holding onto her with my legs which was very hard and she kept slipping. Another sketch that didn’t make it into the revision and tweaking phase – but posted here for your enjoyment.

I didn’t get past a quick sketch of this one…
But why not post it – right?

First attempt at using watercolors. (yes – you guys have inspired me). The idea was that Sadie has sprung a sprinkler. But, feeling like it need a little explanation.
ello there folks, I am writing this post as an excuse to use Jessica Hische’s daily drop caps. She is doing one a day and you can check them all out here. Jessica, make a wordpress plugin for us so we can use them everyday, all the time, every post – please.
A little look at Jessica’s illustration and type work.
Why don’t we make the next week a catch up week. There is probably a challenge or two that you may have had an interest in doing but never had the time – well, now you do!
Past challenges include:
001 – last meal
002 – Spirit Totem Animal
