Chapter 33 is when Harry is in the Pensieve looking at Snape’s memories and realizing that Snape has been in love with his mother, Lily, his entire life. After Lily died, Snape had been trying to protect Harry in her honor. He finds out that Dumbledore’s plan is to have Harry give himself up to be killed by Voldemort in the final battle of Hogwarts, to which Snape freaks out, understandably.
Dumbledore: “But this is touching Severus. Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?”
Snape: “For him?! Expecto Patronum!”
“From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe. She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumblordore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded, he turned back to Snape and his eyes were full of tears.
Dumbledore: “After all this time?”
Snape: “Always.”
Lily’s Patronus had been a doe, and Snape’s had changed to be like hers in his love for her.
